BREAKING Romano: Witsel wants January move, likes Milan idea

Belgian international Axel Witself wants to leave Russia. The 26–year-old doesn’t want to prolong his stay past the end of his contract in 2017, and Zenit Saint Petersburg know that this essential means that from January onwards he’ll be on a one-year deal.

The former Standard Liege man is gladly listening to offers, with Tottenham Hotspur in pole position, and AC Milan just behind, so much so that if a January move was on the cards… he’d gladly go for it.

Trouble is, no-one in Saint Petersburg wants to let Witsel go at a discount, and Zenit aren’t exactly desperate for the cash either.

Only three months ago, they said no to a €3 million loan with €22 million buy-back clause from Milan, partly because the Russian side wasn’t happy that Milan suddenly tried to jump into action on the transfer window’s penultimate day, after a summer-long flirtation.

The RPL club is just as resistant now: Witsel would cost Milan €25 million, to be paid over a short period of time, and don’t want him to be loaned, either.

Then again, the Rossoneri know that the player is on their side, but that the Premier League is also in the hunt.

One thing is certain: Adriano Galliani’s main objective is still Franco Vazquez, though Milan may only be able to convince Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini to let him go for June.
