AS Roma want to sign Arsenal loanee on a permanent deal

AS Roma want to sign Arsenal loanee Wojciech Szczesny on a permanent deal, Il Corriere dello Sport reports. The Poland goalkeeper joined the Serie A giants on a loan deal in summer 2015 and his temporary spell at the club was extended by one more season last summer. AS Roma boss Luciano Spalletti, however, thinks extremely high of the 26-year-old shot-stopper, so much so he’s considering signing him on a permanent deal.

Trouble is, Arsenal believe Szczesny would be the perfect replacement for Petr Cech who is 34-year-old and whose contract at the Emirates Stadium runs until 2019.

Szczesny has become one of Italy’s most reliable goalkeepers and Arsenal were open to sell him last summer for € 18 million. AS Roma, however, couldn’t meet the Gunners’ asking price and managed to extend the player’s loan spell for one more season, a formula that Arsenal would prefer not to repeat next summer when Szczesny’s AS Roma loan spell will come to an end.
