AS Roma could send Vermaelen back to Barcelona in January
The injury of Antonio Rudiger forced Walter Sabatini to sign some long-time replacements for the German defender, but the former Arsenal centre-back has also been suffering many physical hassles since his arrival at the Olimpico.
Vermaelen’s two-year spell at Barcelona was also heavily affected by a sports hernia that only allowed him to rack up 21 appearances with the blaugrana outfit.
AS Roma signed him on a loan deal with € 10 million option to buy, but Vermaelen is being out of action since the 28th of August and with the sports hernia doesn’t let up, AS Roma are considering sending him back to Barcelona six months before the natural end of his loan spell.
Vermaelen has three official appearances with AS Roma this term.
